Academic Suitability Pathway

Prior to being enrolled in a course, TrainSmart Australia must reasonably believe that the applicant is academically suited and displays the competence to meet the course requirements. If you do not have a government-issued Year 12 achievement certificate or evidence of successful completion of an Australian Qualifications Framework Certificate IV or higher qualification (where the language of instruction is English), you may be required to complete a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy Assessment before enrolling into our Certificate and Diploma courses.

Essential Information

Academic Eligibility: Completion of the LLN & Digital Literacy Assessment may be required as part of the academic eligiblity criteria and to apply for a VET Student Loan.
Assessment Tools: Reading, Numeracy, Writing, and Digital Literacy Assessments is conducted using a government approved tool.
Required Proficiency:
– You have demonstrated ACSF (Australian Core Skills Framework) Exit Level 3 working towards Exit Level 4
Online Assessment: Assessment is completed online and monitored via ZOOM.
Resit Policy: If you don’t pass the first time, you will be referred back to your Career Advisor.

Is the LLN & Digital Literacy Assessment Required for Everyone?

The LLN & Digital Literacy Assessment is an academic entry pathway for those who do not have a government-issued Year 12 achievement certificate (issued within the last 20 years) or evidence of recent successful completion of an Australian Qualifications Framework Certificate IV or higher qualification, issued in the last 10 – 15 years and where the language of instruction is english.

How does the LLN & Digital Literacy Assessment Work?

The LLN & Digital Literacy Assessment is conducted online via Zoom. Please allocate 1-2 hours of your time, depending on the assessments you need to complete. Ensure you have a reliable internet connection, as the assessment will be monitored through Zoom in accordance with the assessment compliance requirements. Be prepared to show your photo ID at the beginning of the assessment for verification.

How Can I Determine Which Part of the LLN & Digital Literacy Assessment I Would Have to Do?

Several factors determine which part of the LLN & Digital Literacy Assessment you need to complete. These factors include whether you are applying for a Student Loan or enrolling in a course under a Government Subsidy, whether you are pursuing a Certificate or Diploma course, and if you have any prior qualifications. Speak to one of our Career Advisors today and they will provide guidance.

Is a Certificate III Enough for a Direct Entry Into the Diploma Level?

No, a Certificate III would only be suitable for a direct entry into a Certificate IV course.

What Happens if I Don’t Pass?

If you don’t pass the first time, you will be referred back to you Career Advisor.

Can I Reschedule My Assessment Booking?

Yes, you can reschedule or cancel your appointment. However, an appointment no-show may result in your enrollment being cancelled.

Can I Complete the Appointment on My Phone or Tablet Device?

No, a phone or tablet device is not suitable for the LLN & Digital Literacy Assessment. You should complete it on a laptop or computer with a working Webcam.

Why Do I Need to Sit the Numeracy Assessment?

The Numeracy assessment is a mandatory requirement for the student entry procedure for students enroling under the VET Student Loan.
