They say you’re never too old to learn, but you’re also never too famous to learn. Notable pop stars, sporting heroes and politicians have also decided that online learning is for them.

Model and actress and one time wife of Mick Jagger, Jerry Hall decided at the age of 45 to complete an Open University degree in humanities stating that she wanted to study a degree to set a good example to her children. The Texan supermodel enrolled online with the Open University in England and completed her studies in 2009.

Comedian and actor Lenny Henry, who was one of seven children and born in Dudley to Jamaican immigrants, decided to study in later life too. Quoting his mother as the driving force behind his academic aspirations, Lenny claims she was always trying to ‘install in him a strong work ethic’. Lenny achieved a BA in English Literature from the Open University before completing an MA. Lenny admits he was perhaps over ambitious in his plans to fit in studying with his ‘ridiculous schedule’ but he achieved a distinction and then in 2010 completed a PHD.

Even politicians need to stretch their academic abilities sometimes. Former Mister Universe and Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzennegger completed a distance learning course in Business and International Economics from the University of Wisconsin.

Steven Spielberg, arguably one of the most famous film directors of all time dropped out of college in 1968, but after a successful stream of films including ‘Saving Private Ryan’, ‘Jaws’, ‘ET’ and ‘Jurassic Park’ decided to eventually finish his BA in Film Production and Electronic Arts in 2002 through distance and online learning. The board at California State University said he didn’t need to submit a completed 12 minute short film and accepted seven times Oscar winning blockbuster ‘Schindler’s List’ in its place instead!

Here at TrainSmart Australia, we offer a variety of diploma courses approved by industry bodies. Some of our courses such as the Diploma of Project Management or Diploma of Human Resource Management can be studied online. Call us now to find out more.
