During this course, you will be introduced to a wide range of theories and frameworks in youth work, as well as hands-on practical experience in the field.

In this course, you’ll learn to:

Simualted Practicals provides our students with a safe environment to demonstrate practical counselling skills within a simulated environment. Our studio is also equipped with videoconferencing equipment to support E-counselling sessions for trainee counsellors.

As part of this course, you must complete 160 hours of work placement. TrainSmart Australia has a team of work placement coordinators that can assist you in finding placement opportunities to fulfil your required hours.

TrainSmart Australia will assess a student’s ‘academic suitability’ to ensure the student has the best chance of success. This is determined by either:

  • The student providing TrainSmart Australia with a copy of an Australian year 12 certificate; or,
  • The student providing TrainSmart Australia with a copy of a Certificate IV qualification (or above) that can be verified or,
  • The student completing the Core Skills Profile for Adults online assessment passing at or above Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework in both reading and numeracy.

Please note, we are unable to enrol international students at this time. 

This qualification is a 12 month long course with opportunities to extend, if required.

Absolutely! This course is nationally recognised and can be used anywhere in Australia!

To achieve this Diploma within the 12 month time-frame study the Diploma you will need to commit 20-25 hours per week towards completing your course work. 

TrainSmart Australia also offers students the chance to extend their course duration, if more time is required to complete the course. 

Each unit will require students to complete 3 types of assessments. These include knowledge based questions, case studies and a practical assessment which test your ability to demonstrate and provide evidence of the skills you’ve learned in each unit.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to maintain health and wellbeing by preventing and managing personal stress. This unit applies to work in a range of health and community services settings, in particular work roles that operate in high stress situations and circumstances.

Manage legal and ethical compliance

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to research information about compliance and ethical practice responsibilities, and then develop and monitor policies and procedures to meet those responsibilities. This unit applies to people working in roles with managerial responsibility for legal and ethical compliance in small to medium sized organisations. There may or may not be a team of workers involved.

Promote Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety

The unit describes the skills and knowledge required to identify Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety issues in the workplace, model cultural safety in own work practice, and develop strategies to enhance cultural safety.
