Skills, Training and Employment Initiative

The Mid-Career Checkpoint Program is an Australian government initiative designed for people who have taken time off to care for their family member’s well-being. The initiative provides a customised Skills, Training and Employment Plan (STEPs), helping participants to identify their career goals, skills and interests and pairing them with a qualification that can lead to employment. In addition, a training incentive of up to $3,000 is available for Mid-Career Checkpoint participants to contribute towards their next course.

Frequently Asked Questions

It takes approximately 6 hours over several sessions to complete the program. Appointments with your Mid-Career Checkpoint Coach are held in person or online at a time that suits you.

Participants need to be enrolled in a specific nationally accredited training course that was recommended as part of their STEP (Skill, Training and Employment Plan). The course needs to address the participants identified skill gaps and employment goals.

The Mid-Career Checkpoint Program supports participants in gaining skills to re-enter the workforce or progress in their careers. It does not find employment for participants.

The Mid-Career Checkpoint Program is at no cost to participants. It is fully funded by the Australian Government. The only cost that can occur is if the participant chooses to enrol on a vocational training course of their choice to reskill. A capped Training Incentive of up to $3,000 (ex GST) is available for further training.
