So without further ado, let’s meet TrainSmart’s Health & Community Services Trainers!

Roy Miller – Allied Health Trainer

Having worked with a vast array of adult learners in a diverse range of educational settings, Roy is well-versed in training students in various aspects of health and community services.

After working in Japan as a language trainer for numerous organisations, Roy has run countless training programs in leadership, presentation skills, plus stress and time management.

And finally, Roy is a firm believer in lifelong learning, and he practises what he preaches – from networking and honing his leadership skills, to communications upskilling and even bird photography on the weekends!

Roy teaches the following courses: CHC51015 Diploma of Counselling, CHC53315 Diploma of Mental Health, and the CHC52015 Diploma of Community Services.

Julia Devos – Allied Health Trainer & Work Placement Coordinator

Having graduated as an Educational Scientist from Ghent University in Belgium, Julia’s expertise is in changing one’s environment to suit the person, rather than the other way around.

Julia also spent time working in psychiatric wards and Juvenile Detention Centres in Peru, before making her way to Australia; where she has worked in numerous roles, including support worker, recovery educator and recovery house manager.

These roles were with such reputable organisations as Safe Places for Children, Richmond Wellbeing, Life Without Barriers, Working to Recovery Australasia and the Department of Child Protection.

At TrainSmart, Julia’s focus is on Recovery, Crisis Intervention and Work Placement. Working alongside her students, Julia hopes to improve the community and break down the stigmas surrounding mental health.

“I really like taking the time to build relationships with my students and guide them,” she says. “Being able to talk to support workers about mental health and what we can do, is very valuable because those are the people that can really make a difference.”

Julia teaches the following courses: CHC53315 Diploma of mental health, and the CHC43315 Certificate IV in Mental Health.

Adam Dean – Allied Health Trainer

With 6 years’ experience in various roles within the Mental Health & Community Services sector, Adam joined the TrainSmart team after previous positions with the WA Department of Communities and Teen Challenge WA.

“I try to help [my students] to be able to maintain exposure when the unexpected arises,” Adam says. “It’s typically just learning the skills to be able to interact with clients and just help them feel welcome, because you could be the first point of contact.”

Adam teachers the following courses: CHC51015 Diploma of Counselling, CHC53215 Diploma of Alcohol and Other Drugs, CHC52015 Diploma of Community Services, CHC43215 Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs, and the CHC43315 Certificate IV in Mental Health
