It’s a tough jobs market out there. More people are searching for work as companies streamline their operations and cut costs. While you’re undertaking your job search, it might be a good time to obtain a further qualification and to consider studying one of our government accredited diplomas.

Many people who decide to study with TrainSmart Australia are in their early twenties and looking for one of their first roles within the workforce. When companies are inundated with applications, it’s hard to stand out from the rest and that’s why studying for a diploma in a vocational area will help.

Recent statistics by the Council of Australian Governments revealed that more young Australians are completing Year 12 at school, but over a quarter are not in full-time work or study – that’s around 27% of Australians aged 17-24.

Many decided to try and get better qualified while they searched for a job. 19-year-old William McDonald from Orange Grove in Perth contacted TrainSmart Australia after he’d been knocked back from dozens of jobs.

He felt that his applications were being ignored. William had received good results in plenty of subjects from school but didn’t have any specific business training.

He says “I was being told I needed some experience, but how do you get experience if you don’t have a job? That’s why I decided to study for a Diploma of Business Administration. I am pretty confident it will help me secure a role which has so far been elusive”.

Carmen Whish-Wilson who is 24-years-old is another student who decided to upskill after applying for some thirty jobs and receiving outright rejections.

She says “It was so disheartening, I was being told I should have some sort of experience even for a junior role. I realised in order for my application to stand out, I needed to have an extra string to my bow. I am now studying for a Diploma in Business Administration and I know this will help”.
