Course Overview
Study the AE439 Integrating Mental Health Practice
The AE439 Integrating Mental Health Practice course can equip students with the skills to support people suffering from mental health and suicidal ideation. This course applies to mental health, AOD and community services workers who want to upskill, reach and support a diverse range of people and cultural groups suffering from mental health.
This course identifies that mental health sufferers often experience co-existing alcohol and drug health concerns. To better equip students for real-world scenarios, this training focuses on providing support to clients suffering co-existing mental health and alcohol and other drug issues and referring clients to appropriate services.
The skills learned in this course apply to community services contexts that involve face-to-face, telephone or remote contact with clients.
Managing clients during a crisis can be stressful for mental health workers. This course will also teach students how to handle the complexity of crises while preventing and managing their own stressors.
By completing this course, students will have new-found skills to manage situations where people are at risk of crisis and support them towards reaching safe outcomes.
Upon completing the AE439 Integrating Mental Health Practice course, students will be awarded a Statement of Attainment (SOA), which can be used for further study in a Diploma course with TrainSmart Australia.

Simulated Practicals provides a safe and controlled environment to build confidence and develop essential counselling skills for future health care professionals.
How does it work?
Simulated Practicals simulates a counselling environment through an online Zoom call which involves a Health and Community Services assessor, an actor and the learner/student. In these sessions, the actor takes on the role of resembling a real-life client, in which an issue or traumatic event is retold from the actor’s perspective.
Based on the assessment criteria, the student is tasked with responding to the client with the focus on utilising skills taught in the unit.
Through the sessions, students can gain valuable feedback and be prepared to handle complex situations before entering the real-world environment.
