6 winter skincare tips from our Beauty Therapy team

The combination of cooler days, constant handwashing, and cosy (read: lazy) nights in can wreak havoc on your winter skincare routine. But as our Beauty Therapy students know, staying healthy from head to toe means sticking to the regime that works for you, all year round.

Don’t let the cold weather get you down: instead, practice some self-care with these winter skincare tips to see you through until spring.

1.    Get product advice from a Beauty Therapist

With beauty salons in Perth open since June 6, you can once again seek skincare advice from the experts. Book a skin consultation with your Beauty Therapist to get tailored advice based on your skin profile and you will breeze through winter with a healthy glow.

2.    Amp up the antioxidants

Antioxidants keep your skin feeling fresh and looking energised, which is oh-so-important when you are spending more time inside under artificial light. Seek out skin serums rich in antioxidants and stock up on healthy foods like berries, winter greens and nuts for inner health.

3.    Stay hydrated

You might not be as thirsty in the cooler months, but it’s still vital to drink at least 2 litres of water every day to keep your skin hydrated. Try adding an extra glass of water with meals or taking a bottle with you when you head out for the day.

4.    Cool your jets (in the shower)

We all love the feeling of a long, hot shower. But every Beauty Therapy boffin knows hot water can pull moisture from your skin, leaving you feeling (and looking) dehydrated. Remember to apply moisturiser after you shower as well, to maintain the balance of nutrients in your skin.

5.    Bedtime beauty routine

Your winter skincare regime does not stop when you sleep. Getting 8-9 hours of shut-eye is refreshing for your brain, body and skin, but you can also use this time to let a night-time restoring serum do its work.

6.    Don’t skip the SPF

The sun may be hard to spot in winter, but diffused sunlight can still age your skin faster than you might think. It’s a good idea to use a moisturiser with broad-spectrum SPF protection and follow our Beauty Therapy tips to prevent premature skin aging all year.
